WILLIAM EWART GLADSTONE
Probably not known to many today, but William Gladstone has to be one the most important people this city has gave birth too.
He has served many important roles through the 19th century including 4 stints as Prime Minister. In typical Scouse fashion, he rebeled against those higher above (Queen Victoria) and was never scared to stand up for what he believed in
Queen Victoria famously stated that "He always addresses me as if I were a public meeting."
Royal opinions aside, Williiam Gladstone was the only man in our countries history to be prime minister a record 4 times and was also the oldest serving prime minister, at the tender age of 84.
William Gladstones political views and improvements he made to our great country and fondly remembered around the UK, with monuments built and standing in Liverpool, London, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Wales.
